In January 2012, I was lucky enough to meet Ngayo. She’s 23 years old and is volunteering for Restless Development in Kitalewasi, Iringa region. She’s studying for a diploma in community development at Iringa Community Development College, and was placed with us for five months. Her ambition is to start her own social business that will provide employment for young people and deal with problems facing youth in Tanzania. She is passionate about empowering young women, and was a huge inspiration to me – her manner in working with the community, local officials, and schools was one of building trust and partnership, but she was not afraid to express her opinions and to try to improve the situation around her. When I visited she did not know I was the Director of Restless Development in Tanzania…. but I did let on who I was at the end of my visit. Ngayo, hongera sana… you’re an inspiration to young people and young women in Tanzania!
